Orientation

Hey there! It’s Orientation Leader Erin, here to tell you everything you need to know about Orientation week. Emerson takes a unique approach to Orientation, so while most of your friends are probably going to be headed to their schools’ Orientations over the summer, our Orientation is the entire first week of move in. Freshmen move in a week before everyone else, and have the entire week to simply adjust to the atmosphere and make friends. It allows for a lot of time to prepare yourself for the coming semester and to socialize with other freshmen who are in the same position as you. It’s a really great opportunity to walk up to random people, introduce yourself, and start conversations. The best part is that if you find someone and end up not really liking them, you don’t have to continue a friendship with them. This time is meant for you, and you alone to adjust to the campus, school, and social scene. Also, it is important to remember that after Orientation week, you are not tied down to the friends you made then. You can still mingle, socialize, and hang out with new people. Orientation week is not a stressful situation at all. It’s a time meant for you to relax and adjust to a new place. The Orientation staff also hosts a lot of events that are dedicated to socializing and making friends, I highly suggest attending these events. It’s a great way to meet people, and they’re fun. Lastly, don’t be afraid to reach out to your Orientation Leader. We are here for a reason, we applied and interviewed for this position because we want to help guide incoming freshmen in every way necessary. Most importantly, have fun, and don’t stress. :)
