Dear Freshmen,

Just one year ago we were in the same spots that you’re in right now. We were moving into our rooms and wondering if we would get along with the people we would be living with for the year. We were trying to figure out what orientation events were required and which ones we could skip so we could explore or bond or relax. We were puzzling through the locations of our classes before we actually had to get to them on Wednesday.

Your first month at Emerson can be scary. Heck, every month at college can be scary. But in time you learn that the things that worried you your first day are things that you don’t even have to think about now. Soon, you’ll know your favorite place to get coffee with your friends. You’ll know which professors you want to take classes with again, or which ones you’ll want to avoid for the rest of your time at Emerson. If a 500-word analysis seemed daunting in high school, you’ll practically be able to do one in your sleep by the end of your first semester.

Soon enough you’ll be  saying things that are #soEmerson or you’ll be discussing the club meeting you were just at with your roomies. Until then we hope that this magazine will help you as you decide how you want to decorate your dorm. We hope you’ll get an idea of which orgs you’ll want to join. We hope you’ll see that everyone goes through bad situations. This magazine is here to serve you as a tool that will help you make the best of your First Year experience before you’re able to share advice and adventures of your own.

Make your First Year unique to you. Take classes you would’ve never dreamed existed in high school. Get lost with your friends while you try to find that one bakery the OLs took you to during orientation week. Audition for a cappella groups or shows even if you think you won’t make the cut. Your Emerson experience starts now!

All the best,

Alexis (Lexi) Leira, WLP
